How to Plan your Lingerie Party

The first time that I went to a lingerie party, I had no idea what was happening. There was no theme to speak of, the hostess did not have any food or beverages, and the salesperson did not have a prearranged plan for what would happen at the party. As the clock ticked on and my stomach rumbled in a synchronized chorus with the other guests tummies, I couldn’t wait for the salesperson to pack up her things so that I could get out of there. After what seemed like an eternity, the party ended and I could finally go home.

One week later, I received an invitation in the mail that I dreaded more than a jury duty notice. I was invited to another lingerie party. Words cannot express the shock, horror, and dread that I felt as I realized that I was being invited to another party. Thankfully, the hostess was not close to me so I planned to decline her invitation right away.

As I opened the invitation so that I could get the second hostess’ phone number, something interesting caught my eye. There was a note at the bottom of the invitation that advised me to bring six ping pong balls if I wanted to win a prize. For the life of me, I could not figure out why I would need to bring ping pong balls to the party. But lo and behold, curiosity got the better of me. I called the hostess, told her I would be there, and promised to bring the ping pong balls with me.


The differences between the first and second lingerie parties I attended were astronomical. As it turned out, lingerie parties are not the boring, awkward occasions that I assumed they were. On the contrary, the second party was one of the most memorable nights of my life. My ping pong balls certainly went to good use, as did the other random objects that the rest of the guests brought with them. I was so impressed by the second party that I immediately signed up to be a salesperson so that I could throw such impressive parties myself.

Now you might be wondering what could have made the first party such a terrible disaster. The answer to that question is quite simple. There was a lack of communication between the hostess and the salesperson.

In order for a party to be successful, the salesperson and the hostess have to work together closely. At the first lingerie party that I attended, the hostess did not want to throw a fun party; she wanted to win free merchandise. As a result, she did not pay attention when the salesperson explained how the party would work. The hostess assumed that the salesperson would provide everything, including food, drinks, and decorations. Since the hostess never mentioned a specific theme, the salesperson had to make due with what she had and try to improvise on the night of the party. Clearly, that lack of communication proved to be disastrous for everybody involved.

Whether you are a hostess or a salesperson, you should take the time to properly plan your party. Come up with a theme that will keep your guests interested from start to finish and stick with that theme. Make sure that you communicate with one another so that both of you will be clear on who has to do what. That is honestly the best tip that you can ever learn about being a lingerie party salesperson or a hostess.

To simplify matters a bit, there are certain duties that generally belong to hostesses and salespeople. Here is a rundown on who is responsible for what:

 Salesperson Responsibilities:

  • Discuss theme ideas and suggestions with the hostess.
  • Send out the invitations.
  • Prepare packages of sales materials before the party. (This includes any catalogs, coupons, and order forms that your guests may need.)
  • Plan the games that will be played.
  • Purchase prizes to correspond with the games and the theme.
  • Communicate with the hostess frequently to make sure that you will have everything you need on the night of the party.
  • Play the role of supervisor at the party. This means that you will be responsible for introductions, icebreakers, and game organization.
  • Alternate between games and business so that guests do not get tired of playing, shopping, or hearing about your company.
  • Bring along samples of your product and highlight the items that will interest the guests the most.
  • Try to recruit guests to have their own parties or to become salespeople.
  • Take orders and fill out the necessary paperwork.
  • Place the order with your company.
  • Deliver the order to the hostess when the package arrives if it is not directly shipped to the hostess’ home.
  • Stay in contact with the hostess so that you may be able to plan a future party together.

These are the main responsibilities of any successful lingerie salesperson. Planning the party usually takes a lot more time than the party itself. However, if you just show up and try to improvise, you’re bound to see a lot of bored faces and very few orders.

The role of a lingerie party hostess is quite different than that of the salesperson. Generally, the salesperson does a lot more work. However, the lovely touches that hostesses provide at their parties can make the difference between a party that will make people giddy with excitement and a party that will make people nervous with dread.

  • Send out thank you cards to everybody who attended your party.
